National Chambal Sanctuary
National Chambal Sanctuary
Located not very far away from heart of Morena city is this wildlife sanctuary, which is completely dedicated to aquatic animals. This probably is the only aquatic wildlife sanctuary in all of Madhya Pradesh state, which makes this place so much worth visiting. The main stay or feature of this sanctuary is Chambal River, where all aquatic animals reside. In this river though only crocodiles, dolphins and turtles reside. But mind you these crocodiles and dolphins belong to very rare species and it is only in this sanctuary that you’ll get the chance to witness them. To tell you more about these rare species, then they are known as Gharial Crocodile and Ganges River Dolphin. And we can tell you for sure that they look absolutely exotic and witnessing such animals with naked eyes is nothing less than a lifetime opportunity. Batesar Temple Complex at Padavali VillageLocated some 25 kms away from Morena city is this historical temple complex, where clusters of some 200 small temples and shrines reside. Nowhere in Morena district will you find so many temples and shrines at one place as here. Besides, all these temples and shrines are surrounded by lush green mountains and hence the view that you will get here is very picturesque and pleasing. This huge temple complex is believed to have been constructed between 8th and 10th century CE when the famous Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty was ruling this region. If you take into account the duration and period when this temple complex wad constructed, then it is but certainly even older than famous Khajuraho Temple. In the end, all we can say is that this temple complex has so much history and beauty to offer that no one can afford to give it a miss.
Sabalgarh FortThis is a fort of immense historical importance is situated in small town of Sabalgarh, located some 70 kms away from Morena city. Absorbed in its monumental structure are some fascinating historical accounts of this region. Constructed by a local Gujjar king called Gopal Singh during medieval century, this fort’s control was snatched away by Scindias during 18th century. Later on this fort became Scindia dynasties fortress. Many Scindia princes and princesses used to stay here for recreation or to spend some solitary time. Although today much of the fort is in ruins, but people who love viewing historical monuments they will surely feel linger aura of its yesteryear glory.
Sacred Temples in Sihoniya VillageLocated some 30 kms away from Morena city is small village of Sihoniya, which is home to many sacred Hindu as well as Jain temples. But the one temple that is most sacred and important here is a Shiv Temple, which is popularly known as ‘Kakan Math temple. The real unique thing about this temple is that its architecture and design is inspired by famous Khajurho Temple, which obviously adds lot of beauty to this temple. Besides, this temple also happens to be one of the oldest temples of Madhya Pradesh state, built probably during 12th century by king Kirtiraj, who belonged to famous Kachwaha kingdom. One can also find many beautiful Jain temples in Morena. You can visit a temple that is located in eastern side of the village. This Jain temple was constructed way back in 11th century, making it one of the oldest Jain temples of Madhya Pradesh. Although its current condition isn’t very pleasing, but that hasn’t at all diminished its historical and religious value.
Famous Shanichara TempleThis is another very renowned temple of Morena . It is dedicated to Hindu god of Lord Shani, who is believed to have power to dispel all the misfortunes from our life. And this is all because of main deity, which actually is impersonation of human being and not any form of god.
